The story of an American Musical Art True Form

Elvis Presley

In the history of music probably not a musical style that influenced “popular music” on Blues. Blue is also unique because it is actually a form of musical art “American”. As we will discover the roots of musical styles from jazz, rock, gospel and musical artists BB King, Elvis Presley, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to Led Zeppelin, all were heavily influenced by the Blues.

It is important to note that the term “pop music”, as it did before is a bit misleading. Too often we mentioned classical music and popular music as well as completely different musical expressions. They do not assume they are not very different. What I am saying is that the word “popular” actually refers only time in which we live.

I explain. If we lived in Europe in 1786, when Mozart was 30 years old and the height of his career (he died at age 36), his music was not considered popular, right? If there had been recording studios, radio stations, MP3 and iPods in 1786 would be too naive and simplistic to conclude that one of his symphonies and piano concertos would have been a “Top-Ten out?” And if so, would it not be considered “popular music?” I think you will agree that this is certainly an unconventional but true perspective.

From the blues was such an influence, it is important to understand why. After a brief history.

The blues were born in the Mississippi Delta North after the Civil War. His sincere and passionate performances are deeply rooted in slavery and African-American culture. The first compositions were field Hollers, ballads, spiritual church and rhythmic dance tunes called Jump-ups that showed a singer engaged in a call and response with his guitar. He sang a line, and guitar are. For many years, due to the lack of music education, crowds songs are recorded and transmitted only by memory. Therefore, it is quite possible that a song has been “lost in translation.”

Blues have become the essence and hope of African American workers, whose mind is brought to these songs, reflecting his inner soul for all who listen. Rhythm and blues is the cornerstone of all forms of African American music. The Blues, with 12 bars, seventh progression of dissonant chords and melodies bent note were the first hymns of an oppressed race, tying them with their soulful cries for freedom and equality. From its origins to the junction of Highways 61 and 49 and the station platform Clarksdale, the Blues finally began to grow and headed north to Beale Street in Memphis.

The term “The Blues” refers to “The Blue Devils”, ie, melancholy and sadness. An early use of the term in this sense is in a farce of George Colman Blue Devils (1798). Although the use of the phrase in African American music may be older, it has been witnessed since 1912, when “Dallas blues” Hart Wand became the first blues composition copyrighted.

The form of the blues was built around 1911-1914 by the black composer W. C. Handy (1873-1958). However, the poetic and musical form of the blues first crystallized around 1910 and gained popularity through the publication of “Memphis Blues” Handy (1912) and “St. Louis Blues” (1914). blues instrumentals were recorded in 1913. During the twenties, the blues became a national craze.

Mamie Smith recorded the first blues song, ‘Crazy Blues “in 1920. The influence of the blues on jazz song more in activity and made it possible blues singers like Bessie Smith and records thirtieth year later, Billie Holiday.

In northern cities like Chicago and Detroit, during the forties and early fifties, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Howlin ‘Wolf and Elmore James among others, played what was essentially the blues Delta Mississippi, supported by bass, drums, piano and occasionally harmonica, and began scoring national hits with blues songs. About the same time, T-Bone Walker in Houston and B. B. King in Memphis were pioneering a style of guitar playing that combined jazz technique with the blue hue and repertoire. It is also important to mention that the roots of jazz began with the Blues. So if there was Blues, Jazz would not!

In the early sixties, urban blues musicians were “discovered” by young white American and European musicians. Many of these blues bands based as Paul Butterfield Blues Band, The Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Canned Heat, and Fleetwood Mac, blues to young white audiences, something black blues artists do not they had been done in America, except through the black and white covers stolen crossed blues rhythmic songs. Since the sixties, rock has been repeatedly blue. Some rock guitarists like Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen used the blues as a basis for branch styles. While authors like John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins and BB King – and his heirs Buddy Guy, Otis Rush, and later, Eric Clapton and the late Roy Buchanan, among many others, continued to make fantastic music in the blues tradition. The latest generation of bluesmen Robert Cray and the late Stevie would be Ray.

Today there are many different shades of blue. The following ways:

Traditional blues County – A general term describing the rural blues of the Mississippi Delta, Piedmont and other rural communities.

Jump blues – a mix of swing dancing and blues and a precursor of jump blues R & B was launched by Louis Jordan.

Boogie Woogie – a piano popularized by Meade Lux Lewis, Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson blues-based, and barrelhouse derivatives and ragtime.

Chicago blues – Delta blues electrified.

Cool Blue – A sophisticated piano-based form that owes much to jazz.

West Coast Blues – Popularized mainly by musicians from Texas who moved to California. the West Coast blues is strongly influenced by the rhythm of swing. âEUR

public affection for the blues seems to be increasing. Dana Point, California, the town next to mine, Doheny Beach now has an annual Blues festival that continues to grow. Others can be found in Portland, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and the list goes on.

As for me personally, Blues has always been an integral part of my life. When I play the guitar and sing with other musicians, it is the simplest and most enjoyable of popular music “leg” with. When I was little and my parents had a shop and rock club called The Four Muses in San Clemente, California 1965-1975, we have always had powerful blues groups. Most notable was the famous blues duo Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee.

My only problem with staff to hear a lot of blues is that it can become very repetitive and not sound “cool” due to constant use of 12 blue chord progression standard bar. That said, I recommend that everyone make an effort to listen to some live blues this summer. The music and the crowd it attracts usually guarantee a pleasant experience.
