Learning Piano VS Keyboard

learning piano

When it comes to learning and playing the piano, there are clear differences between the acoustic and electric instruments that you will want to consider. For practical reasons, you should also find what will be easiest for you to own and maintain.

A digital piano is a versatile choice for those who wish to learn many styles or have not yet discovered their musical preferences. A pianist can successfully learn traditional styles – such as classics, blues or piano jazz – as well as more modern electronic music with a keyboard. This latter style is not achieved so easily on an acoustic piano without quality recording equipment and a talent for mixing software.

However, while there are excellent piano electronic replicas (and the option of buying standard pedals), many classical pianists prefer the feel of an acoustic piano; In this case, consider …

Some keyboards – especially portable keyboards – have slim, thin keys with a light and plastic feel. Fortunately, many modern digital pianos offer a more realistic experience with full-sized and weighted keys that feel like a real piano.

If you can only afford the use of a keyboard, but you may want to play an acoustic sound, weighted keys are the way to go; If you start learning about light and unweighted keys, switching to an acoustic instrument could be a challenge, while your hands adapt to the extra work.

· Tip: keyboards with the “action marked mark,” also called “hammered action broad” take the realist feeling a little further, giving serious octaves a touch heavier than the treble.

A piano has 88 notes, ranging from A0 to C8 (average C is C4). Of course, many digital pianos can be found in this size, but smaller ranges such as 61 or 76 keys are common and more cost effective alternatives.

Now, a lot of piano music can be played completely in 76 key models, as composers have often ignored the higher and lower keys of the board. Classic piano and harpsichord music can even be played on 61-key models, since the range of early keyboard instruments was one octave shorter than today.

· Tip: If you are using a keyboard to mix and record with music editing software, a smaller range is appropriate because the pitch and the octave can be easily manipulated during the editing process.

Your purchase and maintenance budget

Let’s face it, you buy a new or used, a decent acoustic piano can last for at least a few thousand dollars … not to mention the adjustment and repair costs (it depends on the condition of the piano and how often must occur in its climate).

On the other hand, portable keyboards range from $ 100 to $ 500, and digital pianos are on average $ 300 to $ 1000 (see the difference between the two). The 76-key models offer a wide range of notes while they remain profitable, but the price tends to increase significantly for a full set of 88 keys.

· Tip: If you want a full-size keyboard with a lower price – and you have a capable computer – 88-key MIDI controller can be found for as little as $ 300 to $ 500; Discover the line of instruments of M-Audio.

Current and Future Arrangements

I doubt I am convinced that keyboards are more practical in space, but that is a good idea, some apartment owners do not allow tenants to maintain an acoustic piano in their residences. One reason is the issue of sound transmission through floors and walls, and headphones are simply not an option.

Another reason is the dilemma of getting the instrument in the building itself. Moving a piano up or down narrow stairs and through the doors can damage walls, door frames or the piano itself. But, even if the move is successful, it will certainly be costly.
